Visiting PARI

Welcome to PARI. Current collections include: The Astronomical Photographic Data Archive (APDA), the International Astronomical Union's endorsed site for the preservation of Time Domain Astronomy; the walking tour of the "Galaxy Walk" display of our solar system; historical instruments used in the early NASA missions (including the first 26 Meter antenna used to communicate with the astronauts); and observe radio astronomy being conducted by PARI astronomers and visiting scientists. PARI is normally open Monday - Saturday from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm and at other times for special programs.

Evening at PARI

Join us on the second Friday of each month for an Evening at PARI. The evening includes a tour of PARI, a talk about recent events in astronomy, and if the weather is clear, we also plan to setup optical telescopes to view the planets, Moon, and other celestial objects.

PARI is pleased to offer public tours of our facility on most Wednesday afternoons at 2 PM. Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling 828-862-5554. The tours last about 1.5 hours. There is an entry fee of $6.00 per person with no charge for children age 10 and under. Driving time to the site from downtown Brevard is about 25 minutes. Maps and directions can be found here. We think you will find the tours both educational and entertaining. The visit features a guided tour of our PARI's Galaxy Walk.

Volunteer at PARI

If you wish to volunteer , the periodic Volunteer Weekends are a perfect way to see the site and contribute to astronomy, science, and technology efforts at PARI. Please contact Christi Whitworth, via email at cwhitworth@pari.edu, for details on how to join the Volunteer List. In order to plan our tasks more efficiently, we must insist that you email or phone no later than 24 hours before a Volunteer Weekend to let us know if you will be able to attend and help.

Space Day

Space Day is PARI's annual open house to allow the general public to observe the many exciting programs that are underway on campus. The next Space Day at PARI will be held on May 7, 2016. Click PHOTOS to see pictures of previous Space Days.

Special Tours of PARI

During the week, Monday through Saturday, PARI is open to visitors from 9:00 am - 4:00 pm. However guided tours are only available by special arrangement or at 2 PM every Wednesday. Visitors are welcome to engage in self guided tours of PARI's Galaxy Walk, the extensive astronomical poster, print and space memorabilia displays and the historical site of the first 26 Meter Antenna used to communicate with astronauts during the early NASA missions. For a modest fee we can make arrangements for your group to have a guided tour of our campus.
