Volunteering Opportunities
Yes, we need you. All walks of life and all levels of interest welcome.
While the level of technology at PARI can be intimidating, volunteering is a good way to learn about many fields of study that you normally might not be exposed to. We try to pair experienced volunteer mentors with interested newcomers. Our youngest volunteer is six. Our most senior volunteer is eighty-seven.
A fairly large number of our volunteers are retirees. They have the advantage of a lifetime of experience and a bit more flexibility in their schedules. If you are a retiree looking for something interesting to do, contact us. We frequently need local helpers during the week to help with: phone coverage, mailouts, proof reading, organizing, and other occasional tasks.
Types of Volunteer Opportunities at PARI
1. Daily Volunteer - Handle PARI phone calls, mailouts, database entry, maintain PARI library and paper filing work.
2. Docents - Learn PARI history and facts then conduct public tours on Wednesday afternoons.
3. Special Projects - such as the Astronomical Photographic Data Archive (APDA)
4. Event Assistance - Provide assistance to PARI staff during events such as Space Science Lab, and Evening at PARI.
Check our Volunteer Event Calendar for your next opportunity to be a part of the volunteer team at PARI.
Please contact Christi Whitworth at cwhitworth@pari.edu, via email, for details on how to join the Volunteer List. In order to plan our tasks more efficiently, we must insist that you email or phone no later than 24 hours before a Volunteer Weekend to let us know if you will be able to attend and help.
