PARI Library

Visiting researchers and students, as well as permanent PARI staff, need access to a solid collection of books and principal journals in astronomy and related sciences. Through purchases and donations, PARI has been steadily building a collection of journals, textbooks and treatises, as well as reference works in the physical sciences, mathematics, computer science and engineering.

The PARI Library is the recipient of book and journal collections from many public and private donors, including the U.S. Naval Observatory, Harvard University, the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and the Hawaiian Institute for Astronomy Library.

In addition its the collection of books on many scientific topics, the PARI Library has an extensive collection of the following journals and magazines:

  • Astrophysical Journal (dating back to 1895)
  • Monthly Notices of the R.A.S.
  • The American Ephemeris and Nautical Almanac
  • The Astronomical Journal (dating back to 1849)
  • Publications of the U.S. Naval Observatory
  • Bulletin of the American Astronomical Society
  • Sky and Telescope magazine

The PARI Library is located in the Cline Administration Building adjacent to the multimedia center. The area is also convenient to professional staff offices and the main antenna control room. Work has begun, and we are seeking additional funding to complete the project. Upon completion, the library will have a digital catalog, Internet access, patron reading and desk furniture, shelving for more than 20,000 volumes and a separate workroom for a librarian.

The collection still has many needs, so acquisition will be a continuing, aggressive effort.
