GIRLS AGES 9-14 INVITED TO PARI SCIGIRLS HIGH TECH FASHION PROGRAM
(January 16, 2012) – Area girls ages 9-14 are invited to a PARI SciGirls program called “High Tech Fashion- Electrical Circuits” Tuesday, January 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Transylvania County Extension Center at 98 East Morgan Street in Brevard. The program is part of PARI’s monthly SciGirls and is affiliated with the national effort to engage girls in science sponsored by Twin Cities Public Television.
“Our January program will introduce our SciGirls to electrical circuits,” said Christi Whitworth, PARI education director. “Participants will learn about electrical circuits and develop circuits in series and parallel. We will also experiment with material possibilities for use in the electrical design process. As with all our SciGirls programs, we will stress hands-on activities designed to introduce girls to science by making science fun.”
PARI hosts a SciGirls event the last Tuesday of each month. The participation fee is $10 per student. Program details, specific hours and registration details can be found on the PARI web site, www.pari.edu. Participants can register at www.pari.edu/programs/students/scigirls. Area teachers and parents are asked to encourage girls who may be interested. The national SciGirls web site is http://pbskids.org/scigirls.
