February 13, 2009 Evening at PARI - Images of Messier 101
More than 50 scientists, students and other interested people attended the official unveiling of mural-sized images from NASA's Great Observatories during the February Evening at PARI. The images of the well-known spiral galaxy, Messier 101, were taken using NASA's Great Observatories; the Hubble Space Telescope, Spitzer Space Telescope and the Chandra X-ray Observatory. PARI participates in the unveiling as one of 100 specially-designated museums around the country in conjunction with the International Year of Astronomy 2009 celebrating the 400th anniversary of Galileo first turning a telescope to the heavens. The Messier 101 spiral galaxy lies within the constellation, Ursa Major.
