Webb Institute of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering
Anna Castelaz is entering her Freshman year at Webb Institute in Glen Cove, NY. Anna worked on the pointing model for the PARI 26-E radio telescope at 1420 MHZ and 26-W at 4.8 GHz. She measured the positions of more than 60 radio sources at over the course of the summer on both radio telescopes. Using the differences between the catalog and measured poistions, she calculated the pointing coefficients for flexure, alignment and perpendicularity of the axes, scale, and encoder eccentricity and phase angle. She completed the ponting model for 26-W last summer, and has completed the model 26-E this summer. After applying the new constants the 26-E and 26-W radio telescopes, they now point to better than 2 arcminutes at the frequencies she made the measurements. Anna’s report (PowerPoint presentation) for summer 2003 is given here: For a copy of Anna’s 2003 report, click here. |
