During the 1990's, I used the SARA Observatory, but also the Dark Sky Observatory 0.45 meter telescope located near Boone, NC and operated by Appalachian State University.  I used the 0.45 m to continue my study of long period variable stars.  The observatory was close enough that students always accompined me on observing sessions. This turned out to be valuable research experiences for them.
