PARI is well situated to host Scout troops, packs and dens. Specifically, PARI staff members are well versed in a number of scientific fields, especially astronomy and space sciences. In addition, some have experience as merit badge counselors and have experience assisting scouts as individuals and in groups in their progress towards meeting the requirements of badges.

PARI qualifies as both an observatory and a science museum for those needing to meet the requirements of visiting such facilities. PARI’s exhibit area contains an extensive collection of space artifacts including Space Shuttle items, some of which have flown in space. These are available for self-guided visits with your entry fee or schedule a staff-guided visit in conjunction with a planetarium program and/or observing session for an additional fee.

PARI’s campus and AdventureDome planetarium can be scheduled for programs incorporating some or all of the requirements for the Boy Scout astronomy merit badge or the Girl Scout senior sky badge. In addition, a nighttime observing session at PARI would enable scouts to meet many of these requirements.

To take advantage of any of these opportunities, please follow the scheduling procedure outlined for school group on our website under Education/Educators/School Programs.
