People have long recognized the importance of the Sun as the source of energy that fuels life on Earth. Many ancient religions worshipped the Sun and Chinese astrologers watched the Sun for sunpots - going blind in the process. We will discuss some of the superstitions related to the Sun and then discuss its main features and how it converts hydrogen to helium to fuel its self. This type of nuclear reaction, called fusion, is what makes the stars shine!
