Research Programs at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute

Preliminary results of three ongoing research programs at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) will be presented. These programs are a pulsar-timing project, a survey of the galactic plane for binary M-dwarf systems, and a study of Jupiter-Io emission at 22 MHz. Pulsar profiles and timing information (period, spin-down rate and dispersion) will be presented from 26-m telescope observations of the brightest, least dispersed Northern pulsars at 408 and 1420 MHz. The second research program at PARI is an optical sky survey to detect low-mass detached eclipsing binaries from which masses and radii can be determined. PARI optical site sky brightness and limiting magnitudes derived from the survey data will be presented. Data from a daily decameter wavelength (17 - 30 MHz) study of Jupiter-Io and Solar radio emissions will be presented. We are currently searching for frequency-dependent radio emission as the moon Io passes through Jupiter's magnetic field. High Solar flare activity also provides opportunities for data recording and analysis using the same equipment.
