Lecture 24 September 15, 2006

Lecture by Dr. Mel Blake, PARI

Blackholes in the Universe
Blackholes are one object which everyone has heard of, but few understand. These objects are intriguing, being pictured as objects gobbling everything near them. Good evidence establishes the likelihood that these objects exist and may affect the evolution of galaxies. I will discuss the evidence for blackholes, and give examples of them, including the blackhole at the center of our galaxy and supermassive blackholes in active galaxies that have masses millions of times that of the Sun!
