Goals and Schedule
Space Science Lab scholars spend 1 week during the summer at PARI followed by periodic meetings through out the school year. The summer session is offered during two different weeks and students may indicate on their application which they prefer to attend.

- Begin observations of the Sun using the optical solar telescopes
- Begin observations of the Sun using the radio telescopes
- Build a radio telescope
- Begin data log books and solar feature analysis
- Prepare for future observations using telescopes remotely

Monday
- Student Arrival and Check-In: 9:00-11:00 am

- Nature of the Sun
- Observing the Radio Sun: Solar Flares
- StarLab Portable Planetarium - "Radio Sky"
- Star Party
Tuesday
- Radio telescopes: how they work and observing the Sun
- The PARI 4.6-m Smiley Radio Telescope
- Your Radio Jove radio telescope kit
- Instruction on basic circuit construction techniques.
- Start building Radio Jove telescopes
Wednesday
- Morning hike - weather permitting
- Observing the Visible Sun: Solar Flares, Sunspots
- The Sunspot Telescope
- The Solar Flare Telescope
- Continue building Radio Jove kits
Thursday
- Begin building antennae
- Keeping log books and submitting data
- Computers, Software and Joining Radio Jove
- Make observations using each telescope to receive further training
- Continue building Radio Jove kits/antennae
Friday
- Check operation of each Radio Jove kit and going solo making solar radio observations
- Future Observations
- Cookout
Saturday
- Student checkout and departure by Noon
