Solar Telescopes

One optical solar telescope observes sunspots and a second observes solar flares.

Click on one of the images below for more details about the observations.  Telescopes are open in partly cloudy and clear skies.

South

SUN
An NC1600 Network/IP camera images the Sun through the PARI 12.7 cm Solar Telescope with a white light solar filter to see sunspots.  South is at the top and West is to the left. A video camera images the Sun through the PARI Coronado Solarmax 40 Solar Telescope. The Coronado Solarmax 40 has a hydrogen alpha filter with a bandwidth of 0.7 Angstroms to see solar flares.  South is at the top, and East is to the left.  Note: east is to the left because of an additional reflection on a 90 degree mirror in this telescope.

When the telescopes and cameras are active then solar images will be displayed.   Archived images, or blank images, will be displayed during cloudy weather.
