CAMP ABOVE & BEYOND
Above and Beyond is an in-depth, experience that is designed to campers in the multi-faceted world of space science and research. Originally designed as a partnership between the Learning Center at PARI and the Duke TIP Field Studies program,
this camp explores the universe through astronomy,
physics, and astrobiology. This camp models the process that college graduates, undergraduates, and researchers in the field use to produce publishable work.
ABOVE & BEYOND CAMP OBJECTIVES
Learning and applying the fundamental concepts of astrophysics & astrobiology
Independent and group research projects
Hands-on instrument (radio and optical) training and understanding their purpose as they relate to the fields of physics, astronomy, and astrobiology
Develop research methodology through planning and implementation
Analyze data consistently with prior research
Formulate conclusions of the nature of celestial objects using scientific data
Curriculum parallels material taught in college-level courses working with the same instruments and resources available to researchers who work with the Learning Center
Special guest speakers
Recreational activities, including visiting local waterfalls, swimming holes and hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains
