WINTERTIME NIGHT SKY PRESENTATION AT PARI
(December 26, 2012) – The public is invited to a special presentation Friday, January 11 at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) concerning the wintertime night sky and celestial objects visible in Western North Carolina. The evening’s activities will include a tour of the PARI campus and celestial observations using PARI’s optical or radio telescopes.
GIRLS AGES 9-14 INVITED TO SCIGIRLS “SUPER SLEUTHS” PROGRAM
(January 14, 2013) – Area girls ages 9-14 are invited to a SciGirls “Super Sleuths” program Tuesday, January 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Transylvania County Extension Center, 98 East Morgan Street in Brevard. The monthly SciGirls programs are co-hosted by PARI and Transylvania County 4-H, and affiliated with the national effort to engage girls in science sponsored by Twin Cities Public Television.
SPECIAL VALENTINE EVENT AT PARI
(January 23, 2013) – The public is invited to a special Valentine event Friday, February 8 at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI). Registered attendees will be treated to an evening of storytelling involving love stories associated with the night sky, followed by a tour of the campus and a trip to the PARI Exhibit Gallery.

(February 11, 2013) – Area girls ages 9-14 are invited to a SciGirls “GLOBE at Night” program Tuesday, February 26, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on the PARI campus. The monthly SciGirls programs are co-hosted by PARI and Transylvania County 4-H, and affiliated with the national effort to engage girls in science sponsored by Twin Cities Public Television.
COMET PANSTARRS PROGRAM AT PARI
(February 20, 2013) – The public is invited to a special program concerning the Comet PanSTARRS Friday, March 8 at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI). The evening’s activities will include a tour of the PARI campus and celestial observations using PARI’s optical or radio telescopes.
HOMESCHOOL DAY SCHEDULED MARCH 22 AT PARI
(February 27, 2013) – The Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) is continuing its series of events for children being schooled at home with an all-new educational experience March 22 on the PARI campus. PARI astronomers and educators have designed grade-appropriate (K-2, 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12) modules for studying Solar Astronomy. The day also includes a visit to PARI’s StarLab planetarium for each student.
NASA METEOR WORKSHOP FOR TEACHERS SCHEDULED AT PARI
(February 27, 2013) – A NASA Meteor Observation Workshop for teachers has been scheduled March 15 at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI). The workshop is designed for high school and middle school teachers and will be conducted by Dr. Bill Cooke of NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office.
NASA METEOR TALK SCHEDULED IN BREVARD
(March 1, 2013) – The Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) is hosting a public presentation on the meteor that exploded over Russia in February injuring more than 1,000 people and damaging hundreds of buildings. Dr. Bill Cooke, director of NASA’s Meteoroid Environment Office at the Marshall Space Flight Center will discuss the meteor explosion March 14 at 6:00 p.m. in the Rogow Room of the Transylvania County Library. There is no charge for the event and it is open to the public.
NC SCIENCE FESTIVAL BRINGS FAMILY EVENTS TO WESTERN NC
(March 20, 2013) – During the NC Science Festival April 5-22, the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) will sponsor two area events and participate in several others.
“YURI’S NIGHT” AT PARI TO HONOR SPACEFLIGHT
(March 27, 2013) – The public is invited to Yuri’s Night, a special Evening at PARI program Friday, April 12 at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI). Yuri’s Night is an annual world space party on the birthday of Yuri Gagarin, the first man in space. The evening’s activities will include a tour of the PARI campus and celestial observations using PARI’s optical or radio telescopes.

PARI HOSTS ANNUAL SPACE DAY OPEN HOUSE
(April 17, 2013) – The Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) is hosting its annual Space Day open house Saturday, May 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The 200-acre campus will be open to the public with activities and events that are suitable for all ages.
PARI HOSTS HOMESCHOOL EVENT AND A SPECIAL EVENING AT PARI
(April 24, 2013) – The public is invited to a presentation on the mysterious Higgs Boson particle Friday, May 10 at the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI). The evening’s activities will include a tour of the PARI campus and celestial observations using PARI’s optical or radio telescopes. A special homeschool event is being scheduled the same afternoon.
